Funken Lodge / Longyearbyen, Svalbard
Funken Lodge sits in Longyearbyen, an Arctic coal-mining town framed by glaciers, polar night, and sudden weather. The brief was not to “make it cosy.” The place already has warmth. The task was to make that warmth legible and consistent across every touchpoint, from bar menus to bathroom shelves.
We developed a unified identity system for the hotel, restaurant, bar, and wine cellar, built to hold two truths at once: the severity of Svalbard and the pleasure of stepping inside. The result is a flexible set of marks, typography, and materials that can shift tone from lodge to dining to cellar without losing coherence.
Beyond the graphic identity, we designed and manufactured the hotel’s amenities and key operational materials. Not as decoration, but as tools. The goal was a guest experience that feels considered in every detail, and a back-of-house system that supports service under extreme conditions.
